Free The Verse: War Times
Let’s talk about it. As you read this, the world is at war with itself.
Let’s admit it: war is all around us, looming large and heavy, brewing around us even as it may seem to be happening thousands of miles away.
War is what a soldier is going through at the ground zero, and it is what goes on in the head of the girls who are fighting the society that blames them for inviting rape. It is in the boy silently fighting dyslexia in the classroom, the engineer battling suicidal thought because of the peer pressure, the old social activist who is walking miles to make people aware of traffic rules because of a child he lost due to a road accident decades ago. War is in the millions of refugees trying to find a different meaning for the word ‘home’. War is in the homeless. War is in us. War is in you.
And you did not choose this war, none of us chose it. But while what happens in this world is not your choice, how you react to it is. Like Robin Williams said in Dead Poets Society, “No matter what anybody tells you, words and ideas can change the world”.
So let us change the world. The poets in us aren’t dead.
Sing. Slam. Rap. Perform. Let the rebel inside you rise, and stand against everything that’s wrong and screams war.
Join hands, and start the war against war but with love, peace and art. Attend the Free The Verse: War Times Event on the 28th of May, 2017 at the Piano Man Jazz Club, Safdarjung Enclave.
Let verses be our weapons. Let the stage be our chariot.
